Vertical Stacked Waterfall Chart in Excel with rolling totals and stack sub-totals

Pine BI 2.1 is now available, bringing a set of upgrades designed to make reporting smoother, more flexible, and more presentation-ready. This release focuses heavily on improving waterfall and stacked waterfall charts - both in terms of formula logic and visual capabilities, while also refining the overall user experience.

Vertical Waterfall Enhancements

Vertical waterfall and stacked waterfall charts now support:

  • Connector lines

  • Rolling totals and stack totals

  • All data label options previously available only in horizontal charts

This brings feature parity across chart orientations and gives users more flexibility in choosing the layout that best fits their dashboard or presentation

Improved Waterfall and Stacked Waterfall Formulas

The underlying formulas for both waterfall and stacked waterfall charts have been rebuilt to support a more intuitive and consistent data structure. In previous versions, totals were calculated automatically, which required leaving total values blank. An additional automatic final total was also added before, which is now obsolete. With Pine BI 2.1, you can now work with a clean, consistent dataset and simply choose which values should behave as totals.

This change not only simplifies chart creation but also makes the logic more transparent and predictable, which can be especially helpful when working with complex financial models.

Easier Advanced Finance Visuals

Because totals are now user-defined, Pine BI 2.1 makes it much easier to add advanced visual elements such as total difference arrows or level difference arrows. These features are essential in financial storytelling, helping highlight key movements and comparisons in a clear, presentation-ready way.

Additional Polishing and Bug Fixes

Beyond the major charting improvements, Pine BI 2.1 includes refinements to user forms, UI polishing, and a collection of bug fixes aimed at improving stability and overall usability.
